Om directed by Upendra, starring Shivarajkumar, and notable for its exposure of Bangalore's criminal underworld. The film was a commercial and critical success and aided the careers of the actors Shivarajkumar, Prema. It established Upendra as a reigning Star director of the Kannada cinema. Since its first theatrical release in 1995, it continues to have a substantial following despite a lack of TV telecast or video release. Kannada matinee idol Dr.Rajkumar considered this movie to be one of the closest to his heart. He has also sung two of the film's songs, O Gulabiye and Hey Dinakara.
